Banks meets SSE to discuss undergrounding of Beauly-Denny transmission line

Gordon Banks, MP for Ochil & South Perthshire met recently with representatives of Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) to discuss matters relating to the Beauly-Denny transmission line.

Mr Banks re-itterated his regret that his requests over the past five years for parts of the line to be undergrounded have not been accepted by SSE or the Scottish Government, despite calls from expert planners that the line should be undergrounded.

Mr Banks said –

“I remain extremely disappointed and angered that the expert advice from the reporter was ignored by the Scottish Government.  The energy company now have no incentive to underground this line in my constituency and indeed they are planning to commence work this summer.”

“The views of local communities have been ignored on this issue and I still await a response from the Scottish Government to my letter which was sent last month.
