Local MP Gordon Banks has expressed concern at unemployment figures released last month which shows than an additional 167 people in the Ochil & South Perthshire area are claiming unemployment related benefits compared to the previous month (November 2010).
The number of unemployed claimants in Ochil & South Perthshire in December 2010 stood at 2,380.
Gordon Banks said – “These are worrying figures for the area and show that on average 5 people were made redundant every day in December. This is an increase of 8.7% on the same period in 2009.”
“It is evidence of Government cuts starting to bite and I worry that this area will experience much more pain under this Tory Government.”
“The problems faced by those who find themselves out of work will have been exacerbated by the recent rise in VAT which will hit the less well off in our society disproportionately. I realise this will be a difficult time for many and my office door is open to any individual or family who feel I can be of any assistance to them.”
