Gordon Banks supports involvement of Royal College of Physicians on organ donation

16 November 2009

Gordon Banks MP for Ochil and South Perthshire has backed calls for further examination of methods to boost the numbers of organs available for transplant.

The MP for Ochil and South Perthshire said;

“96% of people say they would accept a transplant if needed but only just over 25% have signed up to donation.

"Many more people say they would like to donate but have yet to make the commitment."

"I think anything that stimulates discussion and more importantly action on this life saving issue is to be supported."

"I continue to support an opt out system but am delighted that the RCP see the importance of the issue."

"The Organ Donation Task Force has plans to increase the number of organs by 50% by 2013 and I understand that nearly 1 million people have signed up in the first year, but it is important that medical professionals, politicians and the public are kept fully involved in progress.”
