Ochil & South Perthshire MP Gordon Banks has spoken out today on a bizarre turn of events in the House of Commons where SNP MPs have tabled an amendment to the Scotland Bill which would prevent powers being transferred to the Scottish Parliament.
An amendment put down in the name of SNP members and spoken to by Pete Wishart MP labels the bill “...as a whole to be unacceptable.”
In pressing the SNP for a response in the chamber today, Gordon Banks said –
“The SNP’s position has been totally exposed. They are against a whole range of new powers for the Scottish Parliament in terms of tax raising, borrowing arrangements, drink driving legislation and a whole lot more.”
“Pete Wishart has let his party’s mask slip. They are stuck in the rut of independence and it is clouding their ability to improve the devolution settlement.”
“It is an unfathomable position to hold and one that has no support in Scotland as the SNP fully understand by their failure to introduce a referendum on independence in Scotland. Whilst the SNP dither, those interested in Scotland’s future will work together to improve the devolution settlement.”
